Discussion
1. Piccinini stated that creatures all made from stem cells.
Do you think that the creatures made by Piccinini are similar with us, the living beings?
2. What is/are the pro(s) and con(s) of parthenogenesis?
3. Unlike Dr Frankenstein who grew to hate his creation and suffered the consequences;
Piccinini’s work “Waiting for Jennifer” shows the harmony between human and the products of technology.
What is the reason for the different treatments of Dr Frankenstein and the products of technology?
4. Some may think that the existence of “Young Family” is to provide sick, wealthy humans with organs and tissues.
What is your attitude toward this?
Do you think that human being is more superior to the others living being?
5. Genetic Engineering is useful in many areas, but one may also claim that this kind of work may disturb the laws of nature.
Should we continue the Genetic Engineering in the future?
Dear Karen and Kimi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your presentation and we had a good discussion in the last lecture.
In the presentation, what we have always mentioned seems to be the "role of human" (please correct me if I misunderstand). Your presentation also shows the relationship between human and other creatures.
I would like to ask, what is your opinion that, in general, those kinds of creatures are just imporved version of human (like Dr. Frankenstein) which means it is human wisedom that people can improve the world based on their own models?
Or , from the case in Piccini, those models are just the relfection of what human should be?
These two creatures have been mentioned in your presentation (your question 3), I would like to ask for your opinions towards these creatures in general.
Thanks very much!
Dear Kimi and Karen,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your good presentation and good discussion.
I think Genetic Engineering can be continued but it must under control. It is because Genetic Engineering can help people to improve their life, For example use in the medicine. It may help people have healthy and long life. Also, It may help people to continue next generation. If cannot under control, it may big influence to world.
thanks your presentation. i want to raise up a question about violating the law of nature. in fact, there is difficult to identify what is nature and what is artifical. also, is it necessary to treat everything base on this binary opposition?
