Hi all! This is Alice Lau speaking!
I'm a Year 2 student of Asian Studies. Like most of my classmates, I started learning Japanese this year and I love learning it. I find it enchanting, though quite challenging to learn. I enjoy my school life much.
As for this course, actually, when I first saw the title of this course, what confuses me most is that this course belongs to the category of Women's Studies. I really had no idea what we are going to learn. During my associate degree year, I took a course named "Gender and Society" and I found that I'm interested in learning about gender issues, which we usually take them for granted as we face them everyday. For example, most of the advertisements we're accessing to involve gender role stereotyping, but that's what we are being instilled gradually. I'm curious about the connections between Women's Studies and IT and look forward to learning more about it.
Recently, I found one Japanese drama, Absolute Boyfriend, which was broadcasted in 2008 quite attractive. It's a drama originated from a manga series. The story is about a newly invented male robot which can become anyone's perfect boyfriend. Later in the story the robot even wakes up and develops his real affection towards the female protagonist. It's an amazing cyborg, isn't it? Do you want a tailor-made boyfriend/girlfriend?
Please enjoy the clip :]
Hey Alice, thanks for your sharing. It is my turn now to share with you what I think towards 'tailo-made lovers'.
ReplyDeleteWell, it is probably no doubt that everyone wanna have his/her lovers to be tailor-made. However, my concern is that emotion is human/animal's uniqueness (we can always see dogs barking to each other when they have emotions). If we do not have emotions, we lose our uniqueness.
Another point is that if we are so indulged in 'yes men', we are gonna be like cyborgs. It is rather dangerous for us because it is we who create them, how can we be their followers so easily?
Therefore, yes, having a tailor-made lovers is surely a cool thing, but if I can choose, I still prefer a lover who can express whatever she feels. Otherwise, we can still have a relationship, but it is not that fantastic as the real one(Think about some otakus(correct me if I am wrong) who simply put the plastic dolls to be their lovers. Scary, but existing.
Hi alice! Nice example ^^. I watched the whole series of this J-Drama, including the special episodes two years ago!!! >< So fun and touching through out the story and it rellly ask us what is love and what will you do if we fall in love with a robot... Although this is just imaginings of love relationship between human and robot, the story, Absolute Boyfriend i think is beautiful~ .^^.
